Go to Dutch Cycle on Lorne they are good, and have great service. Free adjustments a year after you get the bike I believe.

If you're going to use the bike in the city only, try for tires that are a bit smoother than mountainbike tires for an easier ride. Test the bike around the block, and of course buy a helmet they are only about $22 at Walmart or Zellers. A helmet saved my life last October, and I'd done nothing wrong to get into the accident. Today I was almost run over if I'd not have been paying attention and saw the driver didn't see me in the intersection, and a few days ago I had the same problem going the other direction through the same intersection.

When shifting, you shouldn't hear a noise if the chain is in a line [not highest gear on one and lowest on the other gear], so if it clicks or skips ask if needs adjusting.
If you like speed, go for the 24 speed or better so downhill you can fly more than with a 21 speed I've found.

If it interests you, look into a $20 speedometer being installed if you go to Dutch.
Also, get a comfy seat with a men's design [hole to release pressure].
Invest in an LED rear flasher, and a headlight as well. I like a rearview mirror too, but it's not needed of course. Oh, and cuff clips so you don't wreck your pants or worse.
Good luck and have fun.
