Greyhound Bus Crash

a Greyhound coach that departed New York at 1 p.m. crashed on interstate 87 approximately 150 kilometers south of Montreal, and 177 kilometers north of Albany. Reports indicate that there were five deaths, it is unknown how many Canadians were among the 52 passengers on board the bus but a french translator was called to the scene of the crash.
Greyhound has set up a hot line for friends and families of those believed to be on board the bus, the number is 800-972-4583.

I was on that bus route a few years ago on my way to NY from Montreal. There was one guy on the bus who spoke only french, and customs gave him a hard time.
i asked some of my co workers today who have been in the bus industry far longer than i have why motor coaches don't have seat belts. their response, its always been that way. in my opinion the roofs of buses need to be far stronger, or supported or braced somehow, as well as seat belts being installed. the scariest thing i could possibly think of ever happening is being in a bus crash.
I wrote about the crash on my blog too, and linked to some earlier research I did into why school buses don't have belts. School bus seats are different from other busses, and I think coaches should have belts in this day and age. It's more common for people to wear belts than not, and I feel/am safer with one unless someone behind me doesn't have one and hits me as they fly forward. Maintaining them on a public vehicle is some work, but most likely worth it.
