Iran hosts anti holocaust delegation
Iran is hosting a conference in Tehran for those people that don't believe the holocaust ever happened or that it was extremely exagerated.President Ahmadinejad told people attending the conference that Israels days are numbered. "Thanks to people's wishes and God's will, the trend for the existence of the Zionist regime is downwards and this is what God has promised and what all nations want," he said. "Just as the Soviet Union was wiped out and today does not exist, so will the Zionist regime soon be wiped out," he added.
His comments were applauded by those attending the conference which included ultra orthodox jews, and European, and American writer who believe that the holocaust never happened or that it was exagerated.
The thing that boggles my mind is that any Jew would attend such a conference, no matter how orthodox they may be, why would they want the state of Israel destroyed ?

Because it is against their religious faith and understanding of prophecy that any state calling itself "Israel" should exist today.
From their "Jewish" perspective and faith in what the G-D has said through their prophets, it is "un-Jewish" (ie, Jewish orthodox faith) for Israel to exist.
To better understand this, you would need to read some orthodox teachings about interpretations of Jewish scripture and prophecy, not to be confused with modern Christian eschatalogical interpretations.
You also might want to consider that what is today, "Israel" is populated only by a small portion of what traditionally were "Israelites."
I have no idea how much Old Testament knowledge you have, but some suggest that "Jews" are descendants of the Kingdom of Judah.
Recall that the original Israel (Old Testament original Israel), prior to the kings that came after Solomon, was one nation - however, they later split into two kingdoms, the Kingdom of Israel and The Kingdom of Judah.
The descendants of the Kingdom Of Israel have not been restored by G-D.
Some orthodox Jews therefore have their own religious grounds to not support Zionism.
i don't have a lot of old testament knowledge, and i won't pretend to understand an orthodox jew from an un orthodox one, or the kingdoms of judah from the kingdoms of irael. it still boggles my mind why one jew would support the enemy of another jew who doesn't have the same beliefs. im a baptized and confirmed member of the united church and there isn't a chance in hell i would ever support the destruction of Vatican, even though catholics don't share the same beleifs as me. hell i don't support the destruction or annihilation of any nation, no matter how much i may disagree with that nations leaders or beleifs.
Ok, we're probably using "semantics" here, with regard to the term "destruction."
I doubt very much (but you'd have to ask them) if those orthodox Jews would say the support "destruction." They'd more likely respond that they support the "dismantling" of the State of Israel.
If you mean "destruction" in the sense of Iranian soldiers and bombs blowing up places in Israel, no, that is not what those Jews would want at all.
You also might want to bare in mind that some of these orthodox Jews live in parts of Israel and are descendants of people who lived there since the time of Christ, and have lived in what they call "Palestine" under whatever administrations throughout history that administered the area, and lived as neighbours with the Muslims that have lived their for generations.
I guess if you're sincere about wanting to understand, probably go to the source and find out their premises and beliefs :)
And don't confuse "destruction" with "dismantling" of the State.
As a follow up comment, something else to consider - the sentence that folks were cheering:
""Just as the Soviet Union was wiped out and today does not exist, so will the Zionist regime soon be wiped out,""
Was the Soviet Union "destroyed" in the same sense of the meaning (the derivative - destruction) as how you are using the word?
yeah, i read that part about the former soviet union too. i just really don't believe that iran will be satisfied with the dismantling of the nation of israel, and won't stop there.
i should rephrase that, i don't trust the iranian leadership
"i don't trust the iranian leadership"
I don't trust the "leadership" of any state. I've never given any of them my consent to take my property to disburse for their programs or wars.
touche
