Colbert wins bet

Saskatchewan ! = $1,500,000.00

Although I agree that Saskatchewan is the best place to live, work, and raise a family, I'm not sure adding an exclamation point to the end of Saskatchewan is worth the 1.5 million dollars that our government paid.

Canada's Worst Neighbourhood

I just finished reading the macleans article that said north central Regina was Canada's worst neighbourhood and found nothing about it surprising.

I have seen people scouring garbage dumps, abandoned houses, basements of burned down houses, and even stealing old appliances from the curb to scavenge copper wires to melt down and sell to presumably finance drug or alcohol addictions. I've witnessed a former friends aunt pay the village drunk 24 beers to babysit her small children while she went to party. I caught people using syringes in the bathroom of a bar to shoot up drugs, and heard them trying to convince another person to get them more syringes from the veterinarian because the local pharmacist wouldn't sell them to them anymore. While having drinks in the bar one night with some friends, a group of men were showing off their M-16 that they kept in their vehicle in the parking lot, and an aquaintance had a gun pulled on him while checking cattle in a pasture that his employer rented on a near by indian reserve.
When I was a little kid my parents owned a liquor store. It seemed like almost every weekend the store was broken into and liquor, and cigarettes were stolen. On more than one occasion my dad, and other local men gave chase to the perpetrators because of the slow reaction time of the RCMP, once resulting in a rollover on the end of main street. On one occasion one of the men that broke in cut himself on the broken window and got his blood all over the place, including merchandise. We learned later that the person in question was HIV positive.

All the incidents I describe above didn't take place in Regina, or Saskatoon or any other city for that matter. They took place in three small Saskatchewan towns within close proximity of each other, with a total population of less than 1200 peoople.

I've walked alone at night in obvious cities like Saskatoon, and Edmonton, but also larger cities like Honolulu Hawaii, Madrid Spain, and Monterrey Mexico, but you would never catch me walking alone at night, or day for that matter in certain parts of Regina.

If all the things listed above that I have witnessed first hand, and many more disturbing, and outrageous things which I have heard of second hand and didn't repeat here can happen in communities with such a small population, why is it so hard for some people to believe that north central Regina could be considered Canada's worst neighbourhood ?

Your Result: North Central

"North Central" is what professional linguists call the Minnesota accent. If you saw "Fargo" you probably didn't think the characters sounded very out of the ordinary. Outsiders probably mistake you for a Canadian a lot.

Fill in Plow Operator involved in Roll Over

There were 41 crashes across Saskatchewan on Monday that RCMP are investigating. The crashes occured while Saskatchewan snow plow operators and other dept. of highways employees were taking part in strike action.
snow plow go boom One of the crashes involved a snow plow that was being driven by a manager filling in for picketing union members. It is unknown whether the manager was plowing snow, or driving somewhere to plow when the crash happened. The driver was taken to hospital though as a precautionary measure and later released.
The striking snow plow operators have been told to go back to work because of what I would only assume is the negative reaction from their strike taking place during winter storm warnings. Another winter storm warning has been issued for tonight.

Hannibal Rising

In 1944, in a war-ravaged Lithuania, a young Hannibal Lecter (Gaspard Ulliel) finds himself, his parents, and his sister Mischa driven out of their seemingly impenetrable castle by the Eastern Front. Although Hannibal survives, the rest of his family perishes. His parents are killed during battle and his sister is murdered by Nazi sympathizers. Once the horrific fighting comes to an end, a traumatized and penniless Lecter escapes to Paris, hoping to reunite with his uncle, who was actually killed during the war as well. His attractive Japanese widow, Lady Murasaki (Li Gong), offers her hospitality to the stray. With time, she is able to pass on some of her unique wisdom onto the boy, helping him become a sophisticated and cultured young man. A new fascination soon takes over Hannibal. A sick obsession with dead bodies allows him to grow into an exceptional physician, but it also proves to be a precursor to his sociopath tendencies. As Hannibal rehashes the horrors of the war inside his mind, the suffering his family endured continues to haunt him. Still holding on to the memory of his sister, he decides to avenge her death, even if it means hunting down those responsible one by one.

Get Back to Work

Another winter storm is hitting southern Saskatchewan and right on cue the SGEU strike has escalated to include highway workers that are responsible for clearing and salting the highways. Murray Wood just interviewed Patrick book who has been on the Trans Canada highway since around 6 a.m. this morning and hasn't seen a snow plow yet.
I'm a government employee that belongs to a union, but not the SGEU, and I do not think these guys should be striking. In fact if there are any injuries, or loss of life on a particular stretch of highway, those who were scheduled to work in that area should be held personally responsible.

Tyson and his 'partner' getting ready for a night on the mean streets of Coronach.
After trolling the streets for twinks, they put on their matching assless chaps and destroyed a bottle of peach zinfandel.

this was meant as a joke, i don't think tyson is really gay.

hopefully 'tysons partner' whoever he is, isn't offended and can take a joke if he reads this.

I don't want the terrorists to win

Your 'Do You Want the Terrorists to Win' Score: 32%

Fairly well done, fellow patriotic citizen. You have taken a decisive stand behind our dear leader and against the terrorists. However you do not march completely in lockstep conformity, and that is troubling. Steel your commitment to the defeat of evil! Bow in unquestioning loyalty to George Bush! Afterall you don't want to be a liberal, do you?
