Abernethy is a village with a population of approximately 213 people located one hour north east of Regina, and one hour south west of Yorkton along highway 22 just south of highway 10.

Abernethy is home of the Motherwell Homestead National Historic Park which is the original homestead of Saskatchewan's first minister of agriculture, W.R. Motherwell. In the summer of 2004 Abernethy celebrated its 100th anniversary during the same time as its annual agricultural fair.

School children are bussed to the communities of Neudorf and Lemberg to the east, and to the town of Balcarres to the west.

In the summer of 2005 the upcoming movie the Messengers which stars John Corbett and Dylan McDermott was filmed in the Qu'appelle valley south of Abernethy and near the resort village of Katepwa. If you would like to watch the trailer for The Messengers click here.

Obviously those people that have lived in Abernethy all their lives know why I chose Len Thompson's five of diamonds to use as buttons on the navigation bar. For those that don't know, Abernethy was the home of the original factory of Len Thompson's fishing lures. I believe the factory is actually Lee Freer's current house located on Qu'appelle Avenue right beside the Aber Dome. There is a link to the official Len Thompson website on the links page, which can be accessed by clicking the 6th five of diamonds from the bottom.

I have visited other towns websites including the town or Coronach where I currently live and wondered what ever happened to the Abernethy Homecoming website which has mysteriously vanished from cyber space. So I began a page for Abernethy. As you can see there isn't much here yet, but I have contacted Karissa Lingelbach and asked for any material or information which could be put online. Please feel free to email any relevant information or questions to rlegaarden@sasktel.net .
